Date with a Cure
The San Diego chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association hosts a free annual event called Date with a Cure. San Diego is home to some of the most cutting-edge Alzheimer’s research and some of the clinicians, institutions, and scientists making the biggest breakthroughs in Alzheimer’s treatment. Date with a Cure allows community members and loved ones to ask questions live and get answers from top experts in the field.

Panelists for 2024 Date with a Cure
Listed below are brief descriptions of the research focus of some of the panelists on this year’s Alzheimer’s Association’s Date with a Cure. Please note that the following list is far from exhaustive!
- Dr. Doris Molina-Henry: Doris Molina-Henry, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Research Neurology at the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute of the University of Southern California. Dr. Molina-Henry’s work dives into biomarkers of different sociodemographic communities and how these biomarkers might lead to these groups being unrepresented in studies on Alzheimer’s Disease. She also specializes in engaging, recruiting, and retaining participants in longitudinal Alzheimer’s disease clinical trials.
- Dr. Sherry Soefje: Dr.Sherry Soefje is the Co-Founder, Chief Financial Officer, and Medical Director of Excell Research. She has 20+ years of experience and has been involved in over 200 clinical trials. Since 2012, Dr. Soefjie has served as principal investigator for most of the clinical trials she’s participated in.
- Dr. James Brewer: Dr. Brewer chairs the UC San Diego Department of Neurosciences and is the director of the Shiley Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. He has advanced tools to aid in detecting neurodegeneration that might be abnormal for patients in clinical trials or patients receiving care in clinical settings. Dr. Brewer’s program emphasizes applying brain imaging to identify small and progressive changes in the brain as individuals age or as neurodegeneration progresses.
