Our Neighborhood

At MesaView Senior Assisted Living, we love being a part of what makes La Mesa a great place to live. Called “The Jewel of the Hills,” this San Diego suburb is home to people who love its relaxing vibe and friendly faces.

About La Mesa

La Mesa is an east county San Diego suburb that attracts families and working professionals because it’s just a short drive to the beaches and more affordable than San Diego proper. We’re located in a quiet neighborhood near the downtown core, which boasts great shops and restaurants and is highly walkable.

What Makes La Mesa Great

La Mesa is known for being a place where the community comes together for events, special causes, and activities. Most of the folks who live here say their neighbors are friendly and it’s not uncommon for you to pass a stranger on the street and get a nice ‘hello.’

Things to Do in La Mesa

There are plenty of things to see and do for residents and their families. You can:

  • Grab a bite at La Mesa’s hot taco spot, City Tacos
  • Go fishing or enjoy a leisurely walk at nearby Lake Murray
  • Find treasures at the La Mesa Antique Mall
  • Catch a live show at Lamplighters Community Theatre
  • Admire the views at Mount Helix Park
  • Shop fresh local fruits and vegetables at the weekly Farmers’ Market

And you’ll find one-of-a-kind stores and great eats in La Mesa Village, just a two-minute walk from MesaView Senior Assisted Living.

La Mesa’s ‘Hollywood-esque’ Past

La Mesa was established in 1912 and, for a time, was a movie-making location for silent films. The area’s warm climate meant you could film year-round, and at that time, La Mesa was a wide open space. A handful of studios sprouted up in La Mesa during that time, but Los Angeles was where the action and connections were, so they eventually faded into the wind.
